Deeply influenced by the work of Jorge Luis Borges and Julio Cortazar, there has been an unprecedented rise in the number of fantastic texts in which the impossible is bound to space - space not as scene of action but as impossible element performing a fantastic transgression within the storyworld. This book conceptualizes and contextualizes this postmodern, fantastic use of space that disrupts the reader's comfortable notion of space as objective reality in favor of the concept of space as socially mediated, constructed, and conventional. In an illustration of the transnational nature of this phenomenon, Garcia analyzes a varied corpus of the Fantastic in the past four decades from different cultures and languages, merging literary analysis with classical questions of space related to the fields of philosophy, urban studies, and anthropology. The Urban Fantastic in Nineteenth-Century European Literature explores transnational perspectives of modern city life in Europe by engaging with the fantastic tropes and metaphors used by writers of short fiction. Focusing on the literary city and literary representations of urban experience throughout the nineteenth century, the works discussed incorporate supernatural occurrences in a European city and the supernatural of these stories stems from and belongs to the city. The argument is structured around three primary themes. "Architectures", "Encounters" and "Rhythms" make reference to three axes of city life: material space, human encounters, and movement. This thematic approach highlights cultural continuities and thus supports the use of the label of "urban fantastic" within and across the European traditions studied here.

The fantastic has been and is particularly prolific in Hispanic countries during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, largely due to the legacy of short story writers as well as the Latin-American boom that presented alternatives to the model of literary realism. While these writers' works have done much to establish the Hispanic fantastic in the international literary canon, women authors from Spain and Latin America are not always acknowledged, and their work is less well known to readers. The aim of this critical anthology is to render Hispanic female writers of the fantastic visible, to publish a representative selection of their work, and to make it accessible to English-speaking readers. Five short stories are presented by five key authors. They attest to the richness and diversity of fantastic fiction in the Spanish language, and extend from the early twentieth to the twenty-first century, covering a range of nationalities, cultural references and language specificities from Spain, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Argentina.

This book investigates the politics of transatlantic trade, specifically the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership negotiations. Using a novel approach, the authors analyze the rhetorical choices made by opponents and supporters of an agreement, and the logical behind their arguments. Opponents used emotive frames and strategically chosen issues to increase public opposition to the negotiations; supporters countered, but also accommodated, parts of opponents' rhetoric in hopes of quelling discontent. The study also highlights the resulting changes to EU trade policy, thus contributing to the literatures on trade policy, politicization, and rhetorical analysis.

This work is intended for ages 10+. Cristina Ortega is the granddaughter of Juan Melquiades Ortega, a master weaver of northern New Mexico's Chimayo Valley. Chimayo's roots are in early Spanish Colonial times and has long been famous for its unique weavings. Juan M Ortega was taught to weave by his father in the early days when weavers sheared their own sheep and spun and dyed the wool for their blankets. El Tejedor (The Weaver) continued weaving until he was one hundred years old, when his eyesight failed him. In ""The Eyes of the Weaver"", Cristina shares her memories of visits when she was ten years old with Grandpa in the village of Chimayo, where he taught her how to weave. She also recalls how Grandma helped her husband choose colour combinations for his Chimayo blankets. It was during these visits that Cristina learned how important it is for a child to listen to and learn from his or her relatives. Some of Juan M Ortega's weavings and tools of the trade have been included in the exhibit, ""American Encounters"", at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, DC.

A dental prosthesis is an artificial element that is used to restore the anatomy of a tooth or teeth, also the restoration of the relationship between the jaws, while correcting the vertical dimension and improve both the natural dentition and periodontal structures. The study aims to determine the incidence of Candida albicans in patients diabetes with total or partial prosthesis.

Two World Wars, the rise of dictatorships and totalitarianism, the Holocaust, Hiroshima and the Cold War profoundly affected the notion of identity in the second half of the twentieth century. This book takes Agota Kristov's trilogy and Thomas Bernhard's 'Correction' as paradigmatic cases to investigate the literary representations of physical and existential displacement. A closer look at the biographies of these two authors sheds light on their different experiences as displaced beings. Their protagonists, lost in a fictional world in which no spatial or temporal references are respected, also write to reassert themselves. However, language reveals its inability to capture any true version of the self. Both works merge autobiography and fiction to challenge the notion of truth. This analysis should be especially of use to scholars seeking to explore the link between these two authors, which so far has been largely ignored by scholars, or generally to anyone interested in the theme of exile and its literary representation.
